Actually we made it. We have reached the end of the world. Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world, was once a prison city and then a naval base. Today, hordes of tourists flock to the city, waiting for their Antarctic expedition. This pleasure would have completely wiped out our travel budget, so we settled for the Ushuaia-Light version.
A little stroll through the city, a visit to the harbor and the war memorial (Falkland War against the British). Our guide also praised us the delicacy king crab, which is only available in Ushuaia. Of course we tried this specialty. Well, a pretty messy affair and no competition for an Argentine steak 😊.
In Ushuaia we met again overlanders that we briefly spoke to on Ruta 40. Totally cool and amusing to exchange with them again.
Regarding the weather, the situation was mixed. Upon arrival we had bright sunshine. The following days were not so exciting, winter arrival including snowstorm. No fun and the forecasts promised no improvement. So we left the southernmost end of the world and headed towards the sun (how poetic I can write 😊).
At this point, we still had about a month left until Maggi´s ship set sail. We wanted to use this remaining time to pay another visit to the Atlantic and, if possible, observe penguins again.
