New adventures in Kakadu National Park.

Udgivet: 21.10.2019

We went to Kakadu National Park. Our driver Lena was on time, but Jesus from another hostel was 15 minutes late. We bought enough supplies for the two days. On the first day, we had enough time to visit the Maguk Waterfalls.

Before it got dark, we drove back north to find a camping spot. However, Maps.me led us astray, so we ended up on a different path. We found a large spot where we could have camped. But suddenly, a buffalo appeared a few meters away. Okay, better turn around and go back.

In the end, the other four actually wanted to set up their tents in an abandoned house in the middle of the national park. I was against it, but I eventually gave in. We made our wraps and went to bed later. It was really hot, even at night. Everyone kept complaining and didn't even try to sleep. Eventually, we moved the tents outside, as I had suggested at the beginning. But Lena and Jana still found it too hot. They put their mattresses on the roof of the car and spent the night there.

At 6 o'clock, it was time to get up and pack up. We tried to go to the Twin Falls, but they were closed. Well, at least we got to see the Jim Jim Falls again, which Jana and I had already seen before. Now we had a lot of spare time, since the Twin Falls were closed. We went to Yellow Waters again.

We used the app Fuel Maps to find the cheapest price for petrol. It was supposed to be cheaper outside the park. However, the petrol station was permanently closed. Thanks, Fuel Maps. The tank was almost empty, and the next one was 123 km away. Nerves were frayed, no one was talking anymore. Only 50 km left and the needle was on zero. But we kept driving and driving and actually reached the petrol station. It's amazing how far you can go with an 'empty' tank. But I wouldn't take that risk again.

Back in Darwin, I drank some wine with Jesus and Jagoda (a girl from Poland) and even went out with Jagoda.

The next day, Jesus, Jagoda, and I sat down together to create a travel plan to Alice Springs. We also planned a shopping list. The whole thing took three hours, but we felt prepared for a planned trip. We had bought food for today at noon, but too much. So we ended up having ice cream for dinner.
