The hardest part of our bike tour to Den Helder was still ahead: the way back. It was quite windy. Unfortunately, we no longer had the wind at our backs, but rather a really strong headwind. Luke enjoyed my suffering, but I actually had to dismount at every slope in the dunes because I could hardly make any progress otherwise. So the way back to Julianadorp was quite long. Of course, I couldn't complain, after all, the bike tour was my idea... Tough luck! :D
After what felt like an eternity, we finally arrived at Strandslaag and could return the bikes - thank goodness! We spent our last evening having dinner at Paal 6. The next morning it was time to say goodbye as we headed back to Germany. Returning the keys went smoothly and we were able to make our way back home relatively quickly. However, the journey took quite a while as we were stuck in traffic several times and ended up being on the road for 7 hours instead of 5. But we arrived safely, and that's the main thing!
Our conclusion after our week in Holland: considering the fact that we actually didn't want to go in the first place (at least Luke didn't), we had a really nice week and I'm glad I could convince him. We had a mostly relaxing time, without too much stress, and still did a lot. The weather was mixed, sometimes really nice, sometimes not so good, but actually quite tolerable for the North Sea. The vacation rental was fine, there were a few small flaws, but it was suitable for a week. We definitely enjoyed the little break and were already looking forward to our Thailand vacation over Christmas!
