Zeeland (NL) - Teil 11 - Zierikzee, Brouwershaven, Dreischor, Bruinisse

Udgivet: 29.08.2023

Zierikzee is a nice town with 3 mighty city gates, historic ships, of course a windmill, lots of shops and a thick tower that looks a bit out of place.

The thick tower is called Sint Lievensmonstertoren, but it has nothing to do with a monster! The word part is an abbreviation for monasterium (monastery). Toren means tower. And because every town has a patron saint, Zierikzee chose Saint Livinius of Ghent, hence the name Sint Lievensmonstertoren.

Brouwershaven is a small but beautiful harbor town, whose harbor basin is surrounded by historic houses. Worth seeing were the former town hall in Flemish Renaissance style and the Nicolaaskerk, which impressed with its dimensions on the outside and exhibitions inside.

Dreischor is one of the best preserved ring villages in Zeeland.

Bruinisse is the village of mussel fishermen with a fleet of more than 30 cutters that characterize the village. For 550 years, mussel farming has been practiced in “Bru”, mainly in the Grevelingenmeer.
