Last weekend, we went to the surfer town of Jeffreys Bay from Friday to Sunday, which is just over an hour away. Even though I enjoy dorm life because there's always something going on, it was nice to get away.
There were a total of 13 people, but unfortunately, all of them were Germans. Everyone was great, and it was a fantastic weekend, but naturally, we didn't speak much English.
I had been to the same backpackers after high school, and it's just amazing there. Right on the beach, with a beautiful outdoor area with small spaces to sit outside, hammocks, and a great bar with a fantastic atmosphere and beer pong.
We had booked a surf package, which included six surf lessons, two lessons each day, two nights' accommodation, and breakfast and dinner twice. Surfing was fun but also exhausting and frustrating. But I managed to stand up for a few seconds a few times :D
The weather was very changeable and sometimes very cold and rainy, so we spent a lot of time indoors playing cards and drinking tea. It reminded me a lot of skiing holidays...
On the way back, we watched the professionals in the Supertubes - it looks so easy for them. Really cool!
After this weekend of sports, cold weather, little sleep, and a bit of alcohol, I was quite exhausted on Sunday, and now I'm also sick. I'm probably one of the last ones who managed to last that long; everyone else got sick pretty quickly.
