Skylefjellet

Udgivet: 12.07.2020

It started unusually early for a Saturday. I got up before 7am to reach the summit before the heat became too intense.

The program I am participating in sets 10 summits to be reached between April and October, and if you achieve that, you win a prize. I thought 10 days of quarantine were perfect for 10 summits, and today I finally reached the last and probably the most difficult one.

I drove for about an hour to Strongfjorden, along the sea, and occasionally encountered animals on the road (goats, sheep, cows).

Then I looked for the hiking sign but couldn't find it. But there was another sign by the roadside that said "Rock drawings" (yes, some signs are in Norwegian, English, and German). So I thought they were right by the roadside, so I started hiking without a backpack. After about a kilometer of walking through the bushes and along the beach, I still couldn't see anything, but I reached another road. I decided to find my car again. At some point, I was so desperate that I even started jogging. With the help of Google Maps, I finally found the hiking sign, and the hike could begin.

At first, the path was very steep, but then it gradually flattened out. It passed by a hut that provided me with some shade, and I wanted to take a break and have a drink there, but something moved inside the hut, so I continued walking.

Every Norwegian
Every Norwegian's dream: a private cabin

A deer jumped in front of me on the trail, and just before reaching the summit, a group of sheep crossed my path. On the summit, I was glad that I was wearing a ski undershirt because the wind was not icy, but it wasn't really warm either. That's why I left the summit a few minutes later, after enjoying the view of the islands, Florø, and even spotting an oil platform.

On the cabin's porch, there was a man whom I briefly talked to, and on the way back, I met some Norwegians whom I also spoke to for a while.

When I got home, I was happy to change into a t-shirt because it had gotten quite warm. Some of the people I passed by only had their bras on and very short shorts. I was told that this is the normal Norwegian hiking outfit in summer.
