Nikiszowiec
First day in Katowice with a light tourist program - to get acclimated.
I set out on foot to the east of Katowice, to the historic workers' settlement of Nikiszowiec (Nikischschacht), the largest in the region around 1900. A settlement with its own church, market square, and hairdresser - a bit like today's Uni-Center in Bochum ;-)

Wieczorek
The adjacent Wieczorek coal mine is not a museum, however. Coal is still being mined here, the wheels are turning, the road is black, miners go to work.
Welcome to the Ruhr area!
Archikatedra Chrystusa Króla

Jan Paweł II
