Tuesday 26.6. Lincoln Beach/Oregon - Driving distance: 0
The Pacific roars as I open the balcony door and the clouds are not so gloomy today. We grab breakfast at the resort, which is included, and quickly finish it. Around noon, I head to the beach wearing long pants, hiking shoes, a fleece jacket, and a scarf. In the tide pools, abundant in the rocks in front of our beach, there are sea anemones and starfish of all sizes.
The stones and rocks I climb are covered with mussels, making a cracking sound under my shoes. I spend almost an hour exploring the rocks before taking a walk along the beach to the south.
View to the north
...and to the south
The sun is shining through the clouds more and more. The tide is rising, and in some places, the streams are so full of water that you can only continue barefoot. The Pacific water is as cold as always, even right at the water's edge.
After two hours, I can't go any further without walking through rocky streams up to my knees. Instead of sinking there, I climb up the cliffs to the road and find a nice viewpoint overlooking the section of the beach I just walked. Up here, there are some pretty houses, but often perilously close to the cliff edge. The sun is now shining, and if it weren't for the wind, I could walk without a jacket.
I walk the four miles back to the hotel on the road and browse through a few small shops. I find a coffee shop with drinkable coffee, which I enjoy after the walk. Back at the hotel, I grab my beach chair from Safeway and unfold it on the beach below our room. I sit there in the wind and sun, wearing my fleece jacket and hood.
G. has explored the beach in the northern direction, and we meet here before deciding to go eat at the "Pier 101" restaurant. The prices are ok, the service is nice, and the portions are big. We are surrounded by retirees, as we happened to come at feeding time.
We sit in the pole position on our large balcony again for the sunset, finish our Behringer White Zinfandel, and are rewarded with a giant starry sky. Beautiful day!
