This year, too, 64 singers made their way to an unknown country together with conductor Thomas Kammel, his daughter Theresa Kammel and choir manager Sylvia Lohse. The goal this year: Romania.
Yesterday, July 19, 2019, we set off at 12 noon in the direction of Memmingen Airport to begin the ten-day journey. Although our flight was only half an hour later than planned, we landed safely in Sibiu (Hermannstadt) almost two hours later.
In our first accommodation, the Evangelische Akademie Siebenbürgen in Neppendorf, we got our first Romanian dinner, which tasted surprisingly German.
Afterwards we visited the church where Roger Parvu told us the history of Transylvania after a little greeting and a prayer.
We learned that Transylvania is practically surrounded on all sides by the Carpathians, the term "Transylvania" comes from Latin and means "beyond the forests" and why German is spoken here at all.
After we had sung one or the other repertoire piece, we moved into our rooms. Since the academy isn't very big, we were housed in three different houses across the street.
Tired and exhausted from the journey and impressed by the warmth of the Transylvanians, we all quickly went to bed.
