Koh Lanta is the largest island in the Andaman Sea. It actually consists of two islands: Koh Lanta Noi and Koh Lanta Yai, but only the latter is developed for tourism. The island is mainly suitable for relaxing on the beach. The most beautiful beaches are located on the west coast and can be explored with a rented scooter. Since we mainly stayed on the beach here, we unfortunately didn't take many pictures. Our hotel was located on Klong Dao Beach. This is a long, wide beach with fine sand and dark blue water. Many luxury resorts are lined up here. Unfortunately, there is hardly any shade. Although the beach is described as one of the most beautiful, we liked it less. It is beautiful but not dreamlike (maybe we are still spoiled by Bamboo Island). We liked the Klong Nin Beach better, which was recommended to us by locals. This is also a wide sandy beach. We zoomed further south with our scooter to Nui Bay - a beautiful, natural beach with turquoise water. There are rocks at the edge (although you don't really see much when snorkeling), and mangroves in the background. There is only a small restaurant in a thatched hut here (definitely our favorite beach on the island). But be careful: monkeys occasionally come to the beach and like to check out the bags of the bathers. The southernmost beach is in Bamboo Bay. There are some bungalows here, but the beach is still quite quiet. Compared to the paradise beaches on Phi Phi, the bays here still look quite wild. From our point of view, they cannot compete with those on the neighboring island, but it is much quieter here. No mass tourism and no incredibly expensive hotels and restaurants. Another plus point is definitely that you can explore everything with the scooter. Along the road, you will find small restaurants or street stalls where you can eat your fill. The absolute highlight was the sunset on the island.
