San Francisco - Alcatraz

In the afternoon it was time for: 'Off to Alcatraz!'

Fortunately, I had already booked the ticket from home. They are very popular and I really wanted to see Alcatraz.

From Alcatraz you have a cool view back to the city.

On the left rear you can see the 'Grand Princess'. You can see quite well here what dimension this ship has.

Once you arrive on the island, you go up to the cell block where the audio tour starts.

The audio tour is really well done. Similar to a radio play. Not just someone telling, but also with background noises that fit the respective scene.

You are given a headset, you set the desired language on the small device, and off you go. Through the prison with information and stories.

Here you can see the cell of an inmate who managed to escape. Together with others, he had built head dummies and dug a breakthrough to the supply corridor with spoons.

But here you don't just listen and see the tourists walking through the corridors with their headsets. You really have to imagine that what you are being told over the headphones actually happened at this place where you are now. It's pretty spine-chilling.

Overall, you don't need much time on the island. And so it was soon time to go back to the mainland.
