Kuala Lumpur

Cyhoeddwyd: 19.10.2023

On October 8th, 2023 we continued to Malaysia. More specifically to Kuala Lumpur.

Big city, metropolis, gigantic and pulsating.🏙️🚗😶‍🌫️ We actually didn't want to stay long... just two, maximum three days. This turned into a whole week.☺️ At that time, Malaysia was a strategic trading location for Indians, Chinese and Arabs. Kuala Lumpur is a fascinating jumble of precisely these different cultures and religions. Everything peacefully next to each other. Somehow this city has captivated us.🥰

We looked for an apartment through Airbnb. Centrally located, 41st floor, in-house pool, small playground, sky lounge and only €41 per night. Fits!👍

The kids and we felt really comfortable here.

First we explored the City Center (KLCC). The 450m high Petronas Twin Towers are also located here. They somehow have a very special shine✨ about them, look aesthetically beautiful and don't look like huge blocks. Right next to it is a small green oasis, the KLCC Park with a huge playground and water playground. The big one was immediately thrilled.🤩 Unfortunately we were there on a Monday. Everything was cleaned that day and the water playground was cordoned off.🫣 Never mind… it was still fun. But after a short time we were all red-faced and sweaty. So to cool down in the mall.🥶

The next day we went to Chinatown. A bustling area known for its Petaling Street. One of the oldest streets in Kuala Lumpur, but which now resembles a bazaar where you can buy everything... sneakers, bags, clothing, technology and the like with the logos of the best and most expensive brands. But!!! Of course 100% not original.😅 The big one fell in love with a red handbag pretty quickly. All the brands mean nothing to me.🤷‍♀️ And in between there are always a few snacks and street food.

Just around the corner, not far away, you will find some of the most beautiful and oldest temples.🛕 And that's exactly what we found so attractive about Kuala Lumpur!❤️ The Sin Sze Si Ya Temple is a Chinese and the oldest Taoist temple in Kuala Lumpur. It is completely hidden and inconspicuously located on a side street.

The big one also wanted to light a wish candle

That smell of incense and the light was magical.

And a few meters further is the oldest Tamil-Hindu temple Sri Maha Mari-Amman with its colorful facade and ornaments.

Then there are the mosques and Christian churches... and as I said, everything sits peacefully side by side. Beautiful!❤️

Another day we headed to Bricksfield or also called Little India. This part of the city impressed us the most. The little one was already used to seeing lots of smiling faces in Bali, but Little India and the residents here in Malaysia went one better. The little one let herself be carried around like the Queen👑 and beamed and waved.👋😂 “Oh, what beautiful eyes” came up so often!

And the food… delicious!🤤 We ate Chat Masala twice. A restaurant that is only visited by locals and only offers vegetarian or vegan food. Hmhm… just the thought makes my mouth water again!

But we also found a great Indian restaurant at the Central Market. The children thought the naan was really tasty and the little one flirted so much with the naan baker that I was allowed to look over his shoulder while he baked it.😍

But the Batu Caves, which are a few kilometers from Kuala Lumpur, were also impressed. Although very touristy, the almost 40m high Budda statue and the 300 steps to the temple behind it were impressive.

The Thean Hou Temple was also more touristy, but beautiful. It's a little newer (from the 80s), but really special thanks to the different architectural styles from Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism. When we were there, weddings were taking place non-stop. The many lanterns💡 were awesome to look at. And the little one took her first steps here.

What can we say... we left here on October 15th, 23 with a tear in our eyes!😢 The city we only wanted to be in for a short time, but then got stuck.❤️
