Australia | Queensland & Sydney

16.10 - 21.10: We got stranded in Beerwah and it's raining constantly. Finally, we thought that the rainy season has begun... early... after a 3-month drought, it's no wonder but not very suitable for us. Therefore, we decided to postpone the Australia Zoo and go to Byron Bay first to enjoy the surf beaches and the alleged hippie flair. So the next day, we drove past Brisbane to Byron Bay and behold - the weather got better due to the long distance. We enjoyed 2 more days of surfing, visiting lighthouses, watching killer whales, counting jellyfish on the beach (lots of little slippery buggers), exploring the hippie town, etc. Afterward, we drove back to Beerwah and admired the Australia Zoo for a whole day with its impressive animal shows, facilities, and the impressive story of Crocodile Hunter/Steve Irwin (check it out - it's interesting). On October 21st, we returned the camper (after getting lost many times) and were relieved to leave the rainy weather in Queensland behind.

21.10 - 25.10: Sydney. An impressive, diverse city. Good food, beautiful places, a street food festival in a bigger version in the midst of Sydney, a tour of the Opera House, a sunset on the Harbour Bridge, exploring the city from all angles, fast internet J, a breezy day trip along the coast from Coogee to Bondi Beach with the famous "Sculpture Festival," as well as relaxation, pure enjoyment in Chinatown, and a huge hot pot with sushi in one of the many restaurants. A visit to the Sydney Fish Market was a must, of course - and Herbert, in his full exploration of the culinary seafood, grabbed a huge Pacific oyster and after a few bites, he became a fan of this wonderful (Stefanie says: slimy/mushy/slimey and cold/gross) specialty. She also tasted the salty and seductive slimeiness from the humped shell (at Herbert's discreet request) and after a few bites, she was already sure that this will never be part of her diet again. J Very funny all of this. Continuing in Sydney: we (Stefanie) were gifted genuine Australian pearl earrings from a jeweler by a stroke of luck, which we can now count as our glorious souvenirs. Supermegaawesome (says Herbert). On the 25th of October, our flight went to Adelaide... but my dear children, you will see that in the next post.

Short and sweet this time ;) that's why more photos. We hope they taste deliciously and delight incredibly enormously fat.

Ps: a few funny Australian facts:
- Australians, in our opinion, can't drive at all
- Australians have NO idea how to have breakfast... neither at home nor in the cafe
- Australians can't handle alcohol because the small beer here costs between 4-10€ in the store
- Australians suffer from a temperature perception disorder as it seems to us. It's freezing cold and they wear flip flops and a miniskirt
- Australians don't know facts, only assumptions. Even if they are 100% sure about something (like when their OWN shop closes), they will only say that it might probably maybe possibly be like that... and then it is... yaaaaa maybe... maybe we close at 19:00...
- Australians enjoy children's shows like Bugs Bunny :D
- and many more
