08/06/2019, 03:30 in the morning in Berlin...Time to get up and start the world trip! The plane took off to London Gatwick at 07:00. At noon, the plane took off to Calgary and we arrived there at 23:30 German time.
Marius had advertised on 'Couchsurfing' that we would like to be hosted for two nights in Calgary. Carolyne contacted us and greeted us with a Canadian flag at the airport as promised. Due to the time difference, it was 15:30.
Her living room looks like a museum. Old pictures in wooden frames, heavy wooden furniture, and a comfortable couch. For dinner, she made ham (about 2kg) with potatoes and sauce, and for dessert, carrot cake with thick sugar glaze. Very tasty. We would have liked to talk more, but it was already 20:30 local time (04:30 German time), and we must have looked like zombies to Carolyne. Time to go to the big bed in the guest room.

Carolyne is incredibly sweet. She took the day off just for us. Do we want something sweet in our coffee? Of course! She put a double Baileys in every glass at 08:30 in the morning :-D. Very tasty, but hopefully not a regular morning boost.
After a hearty breakfast, we drove out of the city to the Elbow Falls. The sun was shining and the small waterfall looked fantastic. Initially, she wanted to hike with us in the 'Kananaskis' and drove on a highway she didn't know yet, but it turned out to be a gravel road for now. At the turning point, we drank crystal clear river water and saw three black bears on the way back! One of them was less than 20m away from the road. Caroline said that had never happened to her before. She was still excited an hour later.
Afterwards, we visited her 85-year-old German ex-mother-in-law Kate. Kate looks like she's 65, has a huge house in a typical American-looking street, and a female dog that reminded us a lot of a Wookie.
Kate invited us to a Vietnamese restaurant for lunch. Even though she repeated everything three times, she was adorable. Kate was taken home. Caroline took us to Cochrane to the world-famous ice cream parlor MacKay's Ice Cream. So many flavors and really delicious. On the way, we saw a deer jumping away, and shortly after, we spotted a black moose! Amazing. Caroline has to go to work early tomorrow. She told us to stay as long as we want. We didn't know how to thank her enough for everything.
