Unbelievable things happened on the Camino

Publicatu: 23.09.2018

Of course, yesterday I was chased away by the museum guard and we couldn't sleep at the church because the Spaniards in the city sit and celebrate with their children until late at night on weekends. Such a beautiful small town that I unfortunately couldn't really enjoy. Fiona and I moved away from the center on the Camino path and spent a quite warm and peaceful night on the meadow of a playground. We started slowly at 5 o'clock. Everyone has their own pain. Blisters, knees, hips, ingrown toenails, and Achilles tendon are the most common problems here. People often leave many things at the hostels because they have taken too much and want to carry less.

This week, the city of Logrono had a wine festival and we walked through the city early in the morning right after the festival. They seem to have forgotten to set up portable toilets and trash cans. Broken glass and cups were everywhere. There were urine puddles everywhere, and it smelled accordingly. I was told that during such festivals, it is a custom to leave the trash in front of the restaurants where the food tasted particularly good.

I was glad that Fiona didn't get injured. And suddenly we walked through a huge, beautiful park. At some point in Navarrete, we took a break and slept a bit with Irina. Many familiar faces passed by or stayed for a while. With Katharina (from the Czech Republic) and Javier (from Switzerland), we treated ourselves to our second hot meal this week. We wanted to go one place further by bus. Javier speaks Spanish and tried to convince the bus driver to take Fiona with us. But that's not possible in Spain. So the bus is excluded for me for the way back home. I would have to come up with something after Santiago.

We decided to hitchhike. After only 5 minutes, a nice man stopped and drove us not 16 km further, but only 7 km further. We were grateful that we didn't have to walk anymore. And as luck would have it again, many familiar faces from our group stopped in this village. For 3 euros, we showered and washed again and sat together with our friends. The lady from the hostel lent us a tent because it's quite windy. The next nights are supposed to be cold. So a church garden is our home again.
