DAY 9 Welcome to the state of sun!

Publicatu: 18.10.2016

We wish you a very good morning from Twentynine Palms.

The first official night in California might not have been a Californian dream, but we woke up refreshed and full of energy to visit the Joshua Tree National Park, the last national park we will see before heading to the California coast for the next 1.5 weeks.

At 8 o'clock in the morning, we set off and headed straight into the green desert.

The Joshua Tree National Park is known for its many different types of trees and plants, which you wouldn't normally expect to find in a desert. The trees were truly impressive, resembling giant cacti.

The weather this morning was not bad, but it was a bit windy and we quickly got too cold in shorts and a t-shirt. Another reason to continue our journey to the Sunshine State!!!!!

After 1-2 hours in the Joshua Desert, we did just that and finally arrived in San Diego after a long drive.

San Diego is located right on the Mexican border, and you can immediately feel the relaxed California lifestyle in the city. J

This is our first major stop along the California coast, and we instantly fell in love with the city after just a few minutes. Not only is the weather and mentality great here, but the charm of this dreamy metropolis is also captivating.

By the way, we are staying about 100 meters from the beach at the world-famous La Jolla Beach, just outside the city. We booked our accommodation here on Airbnb and once again we are amazed by what we get. So, we are staying privately with locals who rent out rooms or even entire apartments in their homes. Our current room at Staci's is bigger than some apartments here, and the location tops it all. Although we have to drive by car to get to the city center, it only takes 2 minutes on foot to get to the beach. And it is truly beautiful and of course, we immediately jumped into the waves! The waves here are a bit higher and more intense than at our local lake, so relaxed swimming in La Jolla is not an option ;)

In the evening, we went to the famous Gaslamp Quarter, a super trendy and lively neighborhood in the heart of San Diego. It is full of cool bars and shops, and it didn't take long for the credit cards to start heating up J You really have to be careful here because quick payments and extremely well-stocked stores are very tempting and can make you spend a few dollars!!!!

On the way back to La Jolla, we immediately noticed houses everywhere that were decked out in a Halloween look, fitting for the season! It's a bit strange to see straw bales and pumpkins everywhere when it's 30 degrees outside, or windows decorated with spider webs. Halloween is a big deal here, and it's really fun to see what people come up with.

With tired eyes and one last beer in bed, we finally went to dreamland.

See you tomorrow, San Diego!!!
