Tag 94 - Diving with sharks without shark fishing - but with dolphin accompaniment

Publicatu: 04.07.2019

Hey everyone

Today we woke up just before the alarm clock: our neighbors were in a tight spot and arguing loudly.

What was it about? No idea....

We packed everything and drove to the harbor. There we could get on the boat right away and set off towards the "open sea".

It started great! After about 45 minutes of driving, we were accompanied by a few dolphins. When they withdrew, another dolphin family came to us - there must have been about 30 of them! Everyone on the boat was happy and we continued further out. After another 30 minutes of driving, we stopped - destination reached! The guide prepared everything: a cage for the snorkelers in the water, fish remains in a bag in the water, and he also put fish in a plastic bottle, which was attached to a rope. Since they do not feed the animals, the remains were packed in net-like bags. This way, the sharks can smell the prey, but without getting used to feeding.

But about the fish waste... Man oh man, did it stink! The whole boat smelled of it! Rotten, old fish. A smell that really can't be explained! But once you have it in your nose... Yup, you'll never forget it....

Now it was time to wait. An hour of waiting time was planned and everyone stared at the sea. Suddenly it dawned on us that there was a possibility of not seeing any sharks. After all, we are in a huge ocean and it is still nature. In the meantime, someone actually managed to clog the toilet! At that time we still had about four hours ahead of us on the boat! The wind was slowly getting to us - even though the sun was luckily always present. At 12 o'clock it was time to "draw lots". There were a total of 6 groups and the number drawn decided when to go into the water. We drew number six and were therefore the last. Since nothing was happening in the water yet, we were really grateful for that. We watched the groups jump in one after the other, shivering in the water the whole time and not stopping even on board. When the fifth group also didn't see anything, we went to the guide. "We're skipping. We've been in this ocean for the past two days, we know it's cold." And addressing the others: "believe us, we feel for you."

He understood our decision and said that we can reconsider if we see sharks. We gladly accepted the offer. We waited another 1.5 hours for the sharks - in vain... Slightly disappointed, freezing, and starving (we didn't bring any food, somehow we assumed there would be something on an 8-hour trip) we headed back to the harbor. After another hour, we arrived. There at the harbor was a seal swimming! It had followed a fishing boat back to the harbor! At first, it was really cute to watch... Then we discovered a fish hook in its side... And the behavior of the animal was not at all what we were used to. It begged for food from the boats like a real dog, like a pet! Maybe not so great for the wild animals that so many tours are organized and they get used to us humans?

We left the boat, grabbed our camper, and parked in the same place as yesterday evening. Today we don't even think about driving further. Somehow we are completely exhausted from the whole day in the sun.

First of all, Kevin made us some delicious Pepito's again - eating, that felt good!!! Mind you, we only came back at 5 p.m. and we didn't have time for breakfast today either...

With new energy, we took a look at yesterday's pictures. These are now uploaded ;).

We also briefly looked at today's pictures, some of them are really great! But they will only be available tomorrow, otherwise we will be sitting in front of the laptop half the night again. You can look forward to them, so don't miss out ;).

Tomorrow is a very special day - especially for me. Mom is coming to visit us in London for a few days!!!!! Yup, yup, yup :)

She has had a really tough time in the past few weeks and she more than deserves a little break... In any case, we are really looking forward to tomorrow evening and to having some really cool days in London :).

Oh yeah... With the pictures, we'll handle it like in Rhodes: they will be posted on Tuesday when she goes back home. Otherwise, it's annoying to arrange everything so that you still have two hours in the evening to upload the pictures. Too much gets lost :)

So, tomorrow you'll see what we experienced today and then there will only be text until Tuesday ;)

See you tomorrow, my dears!
