Montevideo and Rio de Janeiro Part 1

Publicatu: 22.02.2017

In the last few days, we visited Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay. There were many beautiful buildings from the early 20th century as well as from the modern era.

We visited the Plaça Independencia, the main square of Montevideo, the port, and the old town. On another day, we explored the new part of the city, which includes the government building. We did all this during our first two days in Montevideo, after which we had seen the cultural part of the city. During these visits, we passed by the Teatro Solis and the Artigas Mausoleum.

During one of these tours, we also bought our new favorite pastime, a Rubik's Cube. We learned how to solve it within half a day, and now it's our favorite leisure activity.

On the third day, we headed towards Artigas Fort. It is located outside the city on a hill and has always been an important strategic place during wars in Uruguay. There is also the Military Museum of Uruguay. However, the best thing about this place is not the fort or the museum, but the amazing view of the city from there.

On the fourth day in Montevideo, we decided to relax and went to Playa Buceo. This beach is also located outside the city and is very beautiful and relatively clean compared to other South American beaches. The special thing about it is that it is not by the sea but by the Rio de la Plata, so the water is almost salt-free.

In the evening, we had excellent meals in Montevideo. Especially worth mentioning is a small restaurant whose name we unfortunately forgot, where we had an excellent Mexican platter.

Yesterday, we had to wake up at half past four because our journey to Rio de Janeiro started at 7 am from Montevideo airport. Upon arrival in Rio, we went to our apartment and watched the Champions League and Circus Halligalli. (A little bit of everyday life is necessary, after all.) Later, we went to have dinner at the port of Urca.

Today, we went to downtown Rio de Janeiro. We visited various sights such as the Cathedral and the Municipal Theater. It was very hot but also very interesting and beautiful. Today, we watched the Champions League again and will go out to dinner later.
