Bangkok

Publicatu: 20.01.2024

สวัสดี dear ones,

Our few days in Bangkok were very mixed. In addition to our constant excitement about the many new things we saw, ate and experienced, there was also always a touch of exhaustion. We spent our first day walking through the streets of Bangkok and just letting ourselves be carried away by the hustle and bustle of the streets. It was extremely hot (34°) so we had to buy small fans to avoid swimming on our sweat. On every street there were street food stands or street markets with every kind of stuff you could imagine. With around 10,540,000 inhabitants, Bangkok is the largest city in Thailand, which is definitely noticeable by the many people on the streets. The road layout also impressed us again and again. Not only because the scooter drivers and tuk-tuks squeezed through the gaps between the normal drivers as if they were disturbed and darted through the streets at a rapid pace, but also because of the multi-story layout of the streets. Many of the scooter drivers didn't wear helmets and most of the women who let the scooter taxis drive them from A to B only sat in the women's seat on the scooter, which, given the crazy traffic in Bangkok, seemed rather tired of life to us... to them but completely normal. After a while we decided to look at one of the huge shopping centers because we needed a few little things for our trip. We ordered one of the practical GrapCars again, which are super cheap (but extremely cold because the climate is at full blast all day long) and drove our way through Bangkok through rush hour. We had never seen a shopping center as crazy as this one in our lives. On the ground floor, an indoor food market stretched out in front of us with all the food your heart could desire. Because the ceilings on the ground floor were so high, wooden huts were built there that had a first floor. There you could get your feet kneaded and recover from endless walking through the food market.

The shopping center above stretched over 5 floors where you could find shops from Zara to Christian Dior. It was actually way too much for us and we actually had everything we needed except for a SIM card for my (old) cell phone. Why old cell phone? More on that in the next post. (Laughs) In that case, we had to go to the 4th floor, grab our SIM card and get out of the shopping universe as quickly as possible.

The next day we went to the tourist information center to plan our further trip. There we booked a trip to the island of Ko Chang (in hindsight, a bit annoying because you can also book this trip online, but we were too late again... oh well). That same evening we looked at one of Bangkok's largest night markets, which was of course full of food. After an eternity of searching, we decided to get a seafood bowl, which we basically inhaled. After this absolute sensory overload, which really exhausted us, we drove back to our Airbnb. Tired but satisfied, we packed up our things and went to bed. Excited about our onward journey to Koh Chang.
