Leon, Vale and I split up a few days ago. They went towards the south and I went up north (see map-route-picture). I started in Halong City and drove to Cao Bang. It took me about 8 hours, 300km, and only driving on almost empty roads. They were well paved, therefore I could do the distance in one day. My next stop was Ban Lac. From there, the Northern Extrem Route started and with it, the cold. The next day I drove to Dong Van through the cold, however the scenery was beautiful even though it was foggy. My next stop would be Ha Giang, but I first went to China. Almost at the northernmost point of Vietnam is a road that goes parallel to the border of China, and there it is possible to cross it for a short amount of time (see picture, border China). I stayed in Ha Giang for two nights because I needed rest from all the bike-riding. From there, I wanted to go to Son La, but it would have been too far to do the distance in one day. So I slept in Than Uyen. Today was by far the best day. The sun came out and the scenery was absolutely breathtaking!! (Almost all pictures are from today)
Tomorrow I'll be on my way from Son La to Mai Chau.
