Today the actual road trip started: picking up the rental car at L.A. airport :)
The shock was big and Marcus was a bundle of nerves when the desired Mustang was missing among the convertibles and only a boring BMW and a lonely Beetle stood there 🤣
But luckily, after a few minutes, a freshly washed and fully fueled black pony appeared around the corner and the pulse went back down. Quickly familiarized with the most important functions and set up the navigation system, and off we went towards San Diego. Sunday was the perfect day to get used to the slightly different traffic. After a few minutes of tension, everything went smoothly and we arrived safely at our intermediate destination, Huntington Beach. Despite it being Sunday, this dream beach was almost deserted. We sat in the sand for an hour and watched the ocean and a few surf boys.
The further drive to San Diego was also problem-free. We quickly checked into the hotel, freshened up, and hurried to downtown to grab something to eat. After that, we went to one of the most beautiful spots that San Diego has to offer: Coronado Island, which can be reached via a concrete-steel suspension bridge that is about 60m high.
For sunset, the sandy beach in front of the famous Victorian Hotel Coronado is recommended. The view and the light are simply fantastic 🌅
As darkness fell, we drove back to downtown to see another San Diego highlight: the Gaslamp Quarter, a beautifully illuminated entertainment district with bars, restaurants, and shops lined up next to each other. It is worth walking through the streets here.
Even though there are just as many people here as at the Santa Monica Pier, the clientele is completely different.
