Arriving in Portugal, we end up just beyond the border in a small fishing town called Olhao. On the Olhao campsite, you can meet quite a few German winter visitors who make themselves comfortable here for months. In a nature park not far from the site, you can supposedly see wild flamingos with some luck. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed, and after brief conversations with a young family, the park doesn't seem to be worth visiting. We still don't know if the flamingos overwinter there. The lagoons on the edge of the city are full of different bird species, some of which we have never seen before - unfortunately, no flamingos. :( The small town is located in front of many small islands where you can admire beautiful natural beaches. Of course, we didn't take a boat to the islands - Maria is still a bit traumatized from previous boat trips in recent years. In general, we met nice people there who have been traveling for a similar amount of time as us and enjoy being able to spend the winter in the south. Rocky gets to meet a female dog to play with after a long time. She and her owner are from Switzerland and are traveling alone for several weeks. But we'll come back to the Swiss gentleman at another time. We don't miss out on a trip to Faro, but more about that in a separate entry. We stay here for 5 days and then head to the West Algarve.
