Nature in Berlin: Walk from Tegel to Spandau and Futurium

In the morning, we drove to Alt-Tegel to start a long walk there.

In the residential area, we encountered a small bus that can drive without a driver and serves as a pilot project for autonomous driving. It drives guests around the block for free, but for now only with a companion on board.

After a short walk along older buildings, we arrived at Lake Tegel.

There, at a beautiful waterfront promenade, we also encountered water birds that were happy to receive bread from some walkers.

We also saw a swan family whose young offspring were being rocked vigorously by the waves.

We continued along the water through the greenery and into the Jungfernheide forest area.

As the trees cleared, we passed by the old Tegel Airport.

Then we returned to the waterfront, where many clubhouses were located. Some properties already showed preparations or beginnings of the Ascension Day gatherings.

On the side of the road, we saw warning signs for beavers. The nearby biotope also looked like a potential habitat for these animals, but unfortunately we couldn't spot any.

After a less pleasant walk through an industrial area, we finally arrived at Eiswerder island.

We were getting closer to the old town of Spandau and took a lunch break with a typical Berlin dish: Döner kebab.

Refreshed, we continued along the Havel river to the old town.

Back in the center of Berlin, we visited Futurium, an exhibition about the "futures" of humanity.

Information and interactive exhibits about topics such as climate change, nature conservation, and artificial intelligence are gathered in exhibition sections on multiple levels.

From the rooftop terrace, we had a view of the Spree river and the Reichstag building.

We then walked back to the hotel before taking the bus.
