Picos de Europa - Panes

February 19, 2023: Arenas de Cabrales - Cain de Valdeon - Panes: In the early morning (OK: for our standards on the trip) we set off in the fog after a quiet night towards Cain de Valdeon, the opposite starting point for the Ruta del Cares. Even the drive was exciting; very narrow, winding roads, wonderful view of the surrounding snow-capped mountains after the sun breaks through the fog...The hiking route takes us into the gorge, partly high above the river, through narrow tunnels and caves. The drive on the N621 impresses with a magnificent view of the mountain panorama. Due to the lack of alternatives, we spend the night at a parking space in front of the small town of Panes.
