We had chosen a combination of "hanging bridges & canopy" for our visit to the Cloud Forest.
So we got on the tour bus around 7 o'clock and off we went... unfortunately in continuous rain. It's not so bad here because it always rains 3 times. From the top onto the leaves, from the upper leaves onto the next ones, and only then downwards. So by the time we finally got wet, the sun was shining above.
Unfortunately, all the bridges of the hanging bridges are made of grid grating... those who know Gabi know the problem. The guide just laughed... that's why we were always at the front, so that the swaying was more bearable... you have to go over 7 bridges... we have that behind us now... the 8th one fell victim to the last heavy storm. In between, we walked through the rainforest and observed animals. Tarantulas, Agutis (rodents similar to rats, guinea pigs) and birds, many hummingbirds. Also a 2-fingered sloth. In the Caribbean they have 3 fingers...?
Jörg climbed up into one of the bridges on a Ficus tree. The Ficus is ancient and has "murdered" its host tree, hence the shape.
After a 3 km hike, we reached our destination. Then we continued to the canopy.
We had real respect for this tour. But the entire facility made a very safe and trustworthy impression. The guides constantly secured everyone and fastened them to the next cable. Admittedly, all together there are 9 cables, 2 Tarzan swings and 1 Superman (strapped to the back, belly down). The longest one is at a height of 200 m over about 1,500 m, with speeds of up to 60 km/h. We did 4 cables and then rappelled down. Due to the continuous rain, one had to brake very early and strongly, as the steel cable was very wet. That was absolutely exhausting. But an incredible feeling to zip through the treetops in the rainforest. Between the start and the braking, there were very beautiful moments in which we simply enjoyed it. An incredible feeling. (Pictures will follow)
For refreshment, we went to the Tree House this evening. Probably one of the 10 most bizarre restaurants. Really built into a rainforest tree over 3 floors... super nice & delicious.
... so now we can go to the Pacific tomorrow from this uncomfortable cold place, imagine, we only have 20 degrees and lots of rain.
