Day 4 Triglav National Park

Publicatu: 07.08.2018

This time we started the day without breakfast at the inn, but at least with a croissant and coffee. The plan was to visit Triglav National Park and drive over the Vrsic Pass. A sporty endeavor with a travel time of almost two hours. But driving is part of the road trip and at least you can endure 35 degrees in the car with air conditioning better than outside.
This time the hubby had the luck of driving through the pass and steered the solid family Volvo through a total of 50 hairpin curves. Of course, not without the corresponding photo and picnic breaks.
The route through the Triglav Massif is really worth it, but you should already be an experienced driver with a compact vehicle. You will definitely be rewarded with breathtaking views and the occasional sheep on the road. If you drive the pass road from north to south, it ends in the Soca Valley.
That was the second planned natural spot of the day. The Soca is probably one of the most beautiful rivers in Europe and originates at curve no. 49 of the pass above the town of the same name. It impresses with crystal clear, turquoise water that meanders its way through several gorges, canyons, or even a very flat riverbed. A paradise for kayakers, cliff divers, and brave swimmers who are not afraid of icy temperatures. Unfortunately, it is also a popular destination, which, together with insufficient infrastructure such as a lack of parking spaces, made some stops impossible during peak holiday season. Nevertheless, we caught a glimpse of this beauty, for example on the Napoleon Bridge in Kobarid.
On the way back, the road trip lived up to its name. If you want to see beautiful things, you have to drive far, and so we jiggled along never-ending Slovenian village roads towards our home accommodation. Shortly before reaching our destination, the sky darkened and the sultry heat unleashed itself in a violent thunderstorm with strong winds and hail. Roads were flooded and branches were in the way. After a 9-hour day trip, we finally reached the accommodation.

Note: While the wife and children made themselves comfortable in the room, I got back in the car and drove 40 minutes out to Ljubljana. The first league match Olimpja Ljubljana vs Celje was still on the program.
