After the obligatory trip to the captain's office and booking another night, we rode our bikes along the coast a little way north-west along the harbor. Opposite the street, old facades with a slightly Caribbean flair appear. Even though there are the bed and breakfasts typical of the coast in Denia, they are clearly in the background and the city has largely retained its original character.
After a short trip to the beach, our path continued below the Castell de Dénia towards the old town.
We then stopped off at a small café at Plaça de la Constitució and drank a coffee. The whole thing was accompanied by the busy Sunday hustle and bustle in the streets and the clear sound of the bells of the Església de l'Assumpció de Dénia. The bells are not rung there as we know them from home, no, the entire bell is turned over, creating a completely different ringing sound.
We then followed a tip, “best tapas in Denia”, we looked for the address, but unfortunately the opening hours did not fit into our schedule.
We then left the old town and drove through a residential area towards Montbu, hoping to get a magnificent view of the city from there. Well, the view wasn't what we expected, but the properties lining the street were all the more interesting.
Back at the port, we then drove a few more kilometers towards Punta Negra. There, a cycle path runs parallel to the footpath directly along the stony beach. There was also a lot of traffic here. In Punta Negra, or rather on the way there, we passed a few small lakeside terraces with inviting menus.
But our hunger is not yet so great that we have to stop for a bite to eat, so we head back to the harbor.
We ended the day there at La Cubanita Dénia, tapas all you can eat, until you drop. We savoured this offer to the fullest. Our hunger was almost thwarted by the empty batteries of our two mobile phones. You get access via an app, which you can use to order, but empty battery = empty stomach. Our waitress, however, signalled to us that you could still get something to eat without the app, if that was the case.
Now that we're full, we drive back to Gustav, pack up the bikes and get ready for the next day.
