17.03.2023 husky project

Publicatu: 17.03.2023

In the morning I started with the dog shift for feeding, some of the guests also watched and asked a few questions. They already seem much nicer than the last one's.

During breakfast we decided that today was the day we would hack some more ice. So the new volunteers could quickly learn what awaited them.

What we didn't know was that there was a snowstorm coming tonight and the first waves of wind would already hit around the afternoon.

It started when we were gathering hay for the reindeers. The wind picked up balls of dried hay and threw them in our faces together with the snow. And when we finally placed all the hay inside the food holder it just winded away.

We tried our best.

The guests were also fighting the snow because they were out on the puppy walk and could barely see anything when they walked across the lake.

Then we saw a few volunteers from the inside shift gear up and head towards the dog kenels. This was not normal for the inside shift...

However

It was ice hacking time and they didn't want to miss it.

We were all a bit skeptical at first bur when the first shovel hit the snow, we knew that there was no going back. Even with the wind throwing snow and ice against us. We would hack this ice.

It was really cool to see everybody, even the new volunteers giving their best in a very cold and stormy environment.

We made some good progress.

After that we took a well deserved break. But Konstantin suggested that if we don't want to do too much work the next morning, we should already start with a bit of snow shoveling.

Which was a fair point.

So we went out again for dog feeding time and to start moving the first centimeters of snow away. Which didn't seem to be that useful because the new snow and wind just kept resetting our work.

We will see if it made a difference in the morning.

Hallo Nick, weer veel werk voor niets gedaan, maar zo blijf je bezig. Wel fijn dat de gasten leuk zijn, er ligt veel sneeuw dus nog veel ruimen. Dikke Knuffel Oma
