Monday things slowly got more exciting. An absolute highlight of Dubai was on the agenda! Burj Khalifa!
But before that happened, we rushed to the Dubai Mall. This is the largest mall in Dubai. Dubai has many malls and they are all pretty big 😅. There is a huge aquarium there, with lots of sharks and rays in it - as well as divers in between 😅. We shopped a bit, fortified ourselves in a café and then walked over to the entrance (directly in the mall).
We showed our tickets and everything went very orderly and strictly according to protocol. At the entrance, an employee said to us: “You can say hello to the astronauts.”😅 I think they are a bit proud - and rightly so. After all, the Burj Khalifa is the TALLEST building in the world at 828 m! We're knocking on the built-up roof of the world, so to speak 😅😁. Simply incredible 🤷🏼♂️
We booked the timeslot at 5pm (for sunset). Since we were early, we went to a waiting room. So far the booked times have been more of a guideline. But in Dubai everything goes smoothly. The group was picked up on time. There were introductory words, a security check and then we headed towards the elevators. We had to wait a little longer because apparently the Burj Khalifa is very busy 😅.
But then it started! First we rushed to the 125th floor and were 456 m above the ground. That was a good start. From there you have a very nice view over Dubai. You can also use an outdoor terrace. We strolled around once, but we wanted more! Then we went up to the 148th floor (Sky Lounge VIP 😁). Now we have found ourselves at an altitude of 555 m. To our surprise, there is also an outdoor area here 😅. The view is of course very impressive. But the truth is also: We cannot really distinguish the “quality” of the view - in relation to the altitude - from which skyscraper we are actually standing on. Are we on top of the Empire State Building, the Sky Tower in Auckland or the Burj Khalifa? All are high and all looks of this kind are very special. Nevertheless, we are a little proud to have stood on the tallest building in the world. You should always remember that we actually have a hard time with heights😅.
As if that wasn't enough for one day, we also wanted to watch the fountain show right in front of the building. We booked a boat for this because you have a better view from the water. We have taken a position. Suddenly Enrique Iglesias can be heard from the speakers and the water was whipped up with a lot of pressure. The water fountains act in sync with the song. That's really awesome. It was a very nice show - especially with the colorful Burj Khalifa in the background 😊.
Afterwards it was very difficult to get a taxi. We had to queue in the mall... we've never seen so many people waiting for a taxi - but also never so many taxis. Hundreds of people were driven there 😅
Good evening 🌇 ☀️
