Through Brittany

Publicatu: 04.05.2023

In the morning we took it easy. After breakfast, we opened the map of Brittany and Normandy and marked the places we still want to visit in the next three days. As is often the case, there are more destinations than time allows. Today we drove from our campsite in La Govelle to Vannes, a beautiful medieval town. They were getting ready for the garden festival, which is why the city was so colorful. The weather was nice, pleasantly warm but also windy. During a walk along the canal, we were amazed at how everything was designed so beautifully: pedestrian paths, separate bike lanes, and green parks with many benches. After about 2.5 hours, we left the city and visited the dolmens and menhirs of Carnac. These granite stone arrangements date back to the 5th millennium BC. A visit to the (free) museum revealed that today's archaeologists still don't know exactly what these stones were used for. But they were nice to look at, and sometimes you just have to let your imagination run wild. After dinner, we decided to continue north directly instead of driving along the coast as previously planned. There are indeed many exciting places, but we also wanted to see Normandy and its various World War II sites. And Sunday is approaching quickly. Now we have arrived at Cap Fréhel just after sunset. In the last light of the day, we had a beer on the deserted beach and are looking forward to admiring the cape in daylight.
