At the beach of Manuel Antonio, Maria's cousin Lucia struck up a conversation with the coconut vendor Vittor. He told us that he lives on a small peninsula not far from Quepos, where his wife runs a soda (small restaurant). He then invited us to come and eat there in the evening. Vittor's son is a fisherman and he quickly caught five fresh fish for our dinner. We took a short ferry ride and were able to enjoy a wonderful sunset on site. We were warmly greeted at the soda and treated to a delicious menu. We were touched by the hospitality of Vittor and his family and grateful that we were able to spend an evening away from the hustle and bustle of tourism with locals. We started our return journey to Manuel Antonio with a wild ride on the flatbed of a pickup truck that Vittor had arranged for us for safety reasons to transport us to the ferry. We take great memories of authentic encounters and hospitality.
