Hi guys,
our first full day in Australia is coming to an end.
The day started with both of us waking up very early! We were wide awake in bed at 6am, which is due to the time difference. However, we also had more time to explore the city.
After almost being the first ones at the hostel's breakfast buffet at 8am, which consisted of 3 different types of toast, jam, peanut butter, and maple syrup, we left the hostel early and well-nourished. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to the city center from our hostel, along nicely built high-rise buildings. Originally, we were looking for a café, but when we passed by the bank, we decided to take care of opening our bank account. And so we did! Opening the account was as uncomplicated as it was in New Zealand, and after about an hour of paperwork with the bank employee, we left the bank branch with two Australian accounts. Unfortunately, we can only pick up our bank card in 5 to 10 days, which seemed like a problem at first because we won't be staying in our hostel anymore by then. However, we realized that if things go well, we will have found a car by then. In that case, we won't have to pay for accommodation anymore because we can sleep in the car, and we can pass the time until the card is ready by taking day trips around Brisbane!
Feeling satisfied with our progress, we headed to McDonald's because we were both hungry again and still hadn't had coffee.
Afterwards, we returned to our hostel room because I didn't feel very well. But after a slightly too long nap, the world looked different again. However, it was already 6pm by then, and to get some exercise, we decided to go shopping. At first glance, the products in the supermarket seemed very familiar, almost identical to those in New Zealand.
Many products in the supermarket brought me great joy, as I associate them with my time in New Zealand. It's amazing how a seemingly simple supermarket shopping experience can become such an exciting event. Our shopping mainly consisted of expanding our breakfast options, and so we strolled back to the hostel.
Currently, it is raining a lot in Brisbane, but that seems to be normal for this time of year. However, the temperatures during the day still do not drop below 20 degrees, so we still can't really talk about bad weather. This current weather is probably a good opportunity to get used to the temperatures.
To be honest, I can't wait to leave the hostel and the city because I'm so excited to explore the country. But first, we need to find a suitable vehicle, which we plan to do in the next 2 days.
We have scheduled various appointments to view all kinds of cars.
Today, there is a "Halloween party" at the hostel. However, we don't really feel like joining the celebration, so we have switched to tea in homemade mugs (see photo) and Netflix, hoping that the partying crowd will eventually get tired!
Greetings from Brisbane, Australia! 🇦🇺
Your Tim! 😊
