Akaroa on the Banks Peninsula to Rakaia

Publicatu: 02.04.2019

The plan to drive a short distance on the first day to get familiar with driving on the left and shake off travel fatigue was successful. Accidents 0 : driven kilometers 146.

The night was extremely short. That's how the first blog entry came about. In the morning, one of the best things about van life; the fresh coffee. Comparable to the cigarette afterwards, so is the coffee before dawn. First, take a look at what you actually wanted to do or what changes are pending. But you only ask yourself 'Was I good?' at the end of the day. Addendum: Empirical information is best obtained directly from the educated sexologist.

On the Banks Peninsula, not far from Christchurch, there are no major highlights to see, but also a very inviting scenic/tourist route that offers beautiful views over a distance of about 33km.

The peninsula was formed long ago through volcanic activity. This can be seen in the partly rugged, crater-like hills. Some impressions of that.

The wind from last night didn't calm down much, which led to strange creatures being lured onto the road.

Located on the Banks Peninsula is also a cheese factory founded in 1895. A short detour with a visit and tasting was worthwhile. Very tasty and also supporting the local craftsmanship.

Besides the tourist route, the route planning included a drive to Rakaia towards Mt. Hutt in the inland. Here, the planned hike along the river of the same name will take place the next day.

The drive was less spectacular. Incredibly long roads along livestock farming and farms.

The day is coming to an end and we cook what we have. However, only the healthy things are shown, as the health insurance company may be scanning.

At the end of the day, I manage to perform a trick that fits well with the initially mentioned 'Was I good?'

When trying to close the back door from the bed, it seems that my body weight is far superior to the bed frame. The victory of weight is celebrated with a KO of three supporting crossbars. But this also meant my downfall by about 40 centimeters.

And the winner is ... Ironweight

So unfortunately, there was no more sleep to be had in this bed. A call to the 24-hour emergency service of the rental company was made. Further steps will be taken.

Fortunately, the campsite owner helps us out with a large board, which we use as a stable crossbar.

Was I good?
