Kootenay NP

We were in Kootenay National Park today. This park is located slightly north of Banff and can be reached via Highway 93, with the two national parks practically merging into each other.

At Vermilion Pass, there is a circular trail that was created after the major fire in 1968, and you can learn a lot about the development of flora and fauna after the fire.

The second highlight of the day was Marble Canyon - a circular trail that leads through or rather above the gorge up to the waterfall, giving you a good impression of how the water has carved through the rock and created the canyon.

Finally, we visited the Paint Pots - cold, extremely iron-rich springs - which leave the ground with a deep ochre color. The Paint Pots are a sacred place for First Nations and were used for war paints, among other things.
