Day 8 - Hungarian Cuisine

In the morning, I walked from a bakery after breakfast to Budapest's main train station. There, I reserved a bed in one of the sleeping cars for my upcoming train journey to Bucharest. Right next door, I bought a pack of earplugs to sleep as quietly as possible on the train.

From the station, I headed to Budapest's central market hall, an old historic building. However, since it was Sunday, only a small portion of the shops were open, and only a few visitors were present.

Around noon, my personal highlight was about to take place: Eating authentic Hungarian Langos. I queued at a crowded restaurant that clearly was the best spot for this popular Hungarian street food, and ordered a Hungarian style Langos. I received it with sour cream, cheese, onions, and diced ham. All in all, it was a truly delicious meal.

Around three o'clock, I climbed the steps of St. Stephen's Basilica. Once at the top, a view over almost all of Budapest opened up to me. You could see the somewhat hilly Pest on the other side of the Danube and look over the flat city center. Since I wanted to see the sunset, I spent time on the observation deck, watching the traffic and people on the street while visiting the museum of the basilica. Just before closing, I was able to observe the sunset behind the hills of Buda.

After descending the stairs, I sat down with a chimney cake, which also originally comes from Hungary, by the banks of the Danube.
