It wasn't a relaxing night, as in Alghero the Italians party to their hearts' content. We are simply too old. Jan's back isn't getting any better either, he continues to diligently swallow Ibus like Smarties. And to make matters worse, the alarm went off really early. But we should be rewarded!
The sun is shining, the sea is calling and we are booked on Franco's catamaran. We sail across the Mediterranean for a good hour until we reach the island of Asinara. Here we get a small aperitif - the usual combination of ham, salami, pecorino and bread with as much chilled white wine as we want. The view of the turquoise water - that's a vacation. We have time to explore the island, an old prison island that now resembles a ghost town. A backdrop like in the film, the dilapidated white houses in front of an incredible view.
And when we get back to the jetty we can actually see one of the wild donkeys living there. The cutie can even be petted.
The boat trip continues to three different spots with white sand bottom and clear water. You might think you've swum into a brochure. We snorkel and, like everywhere else, see striped mullet, sea bream, wide-eyed sea bream and damselfish (we spent some time researching the fish over dinner). In between, Franco served us pasta and then coffee, it somehow doesn't get any more Italian than that.
For most of the day we just relax in the net at the front and watch our cat glide over the clear water.
The end of the day was crowned with a whole meter of good pizza.
