Another long journey awaits us today. It's about a 4-hour drive from Golden to Kamloops. The closer we got to Kamloops, the more the landscape changed. The mountains disappeared, everything became barren, and the lush green gave way to lifeless brown. The temperature also kept rising. While we started the day in Golden with about 10 degrees, we ended our drive in Kamloops with an incredible 30 degrees. The weather forecast had already predicted this, and we were prepared for it - but not entirely. After not having more than 15 degrees for over two weeks, occasionally even less, and even standing knee-deep in snow at times, this was quite a temperature shock.
During our visit to the BC Wildlife Park, we really worked up a sweat. Another problem was the mosquitoes. We never had any issues with them before, but this time we had to battle them fiercely. They practically ate us alive! After just over an hour in the park, we had so many mosquito bites that we couldn't even count them anymore.
Now, let's talk about the park itself: small but beautiful is the motto here. You can see local animals such as bears, wolves, elk, and more. The Wildlife Park also owns an albino black bear. However, the animal seems a bit desolate, all alone in the enclosure. Maybe it's just too hot for it...
The park is not very big, so we quickly made our way through. We're thinking about what else we could do before check-in time and decide to go to the city park, where there's also a small beach. Kamloops is located right by a large lake, after all.
