Singapore Marina Bay Sands

Publicatu: 21.01.2018

The day started with technical problems. We had the idea of renting city bikes to shorten the walking distances. However, none of that worked really well, the app doesn't work and the locks don't open. So plan B, we took the bus to the marina, which was super fast. We then visited the Asian Civilisation Museum. Here, on three levels, detailed information about trade, shipping, religions and porcelain from all over Asia is presented. I was particularly impressed by the recovered treasures of a trading ship that was discovered here off the coast by a fishing boat in the 1990s. Thousands of porcelain bowls, amphorae, utensils survived the sinking of the ship largely intact, or could be recovered fused with shell.

On the second level, figures and ornaments, shrines and door decorations from the religions prevalent in the Asian region, Buddhism, Hinduism and Islam, could be seen. Beautifully crafted Qurans and scrolls were also on display. The exhibits date back from the 2nd to the 8th millennium and are partially very well preserved.

The third level then showed art and utensils made of porcelain, mainly produced in China. The Chinese were skilled, had the raw materials and had perfected the technique of porcelain production early on.

After so much culture, the coffee break was more than deserved 😉.

Then we continued to the Singapore Flyer, a ferris wheel at the marina, 30 meters higher than the London Eye, which is already impressive! It is the largest of its kind in Asia and the view is fantastic! This is really a must-visit when you are here!

And because we still didn't have enough great views, we also went up to the 56th floor of the Marina Sands Hotel to enjoy the view of this insane city from the "ship" lying on the three towers.

Still not enough insanity: the shopping center at the marina is gigantic and all luxury brands are represented. Not with small shops, no, huge ones that are ready to explode any credit limit! And yet, the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Oh yes, Harley Davidson also has a (small) shop, only clothes and accessories, no real bikes. It's too hot to ride here 😉.

After dinner at the old harbor, we watched the light show of the Marina Sands from the opposite shore, which was very impressive to see.
