At this point, I want to say a few words about sending emails.
First, something noteworthy must happen, which in turn needs to be written down. Then it is convenient to have a few impressive photos that should be resized to keep the data package within limits. Once these requirements are met, an email is prepared to be sent to a fast connection location, which is usually not a problem in Spain. The bigger problem now is the number of recipients of the email.
When we started a few years ago, we sent our stories to a selected small circle, instead of postcards. It was getting more and more difficult. Have you sent any cards from your vacation recently? The selection of appealing motifs is very limited, mainly barely dressed men on beaches or even in front of castles or cows! Then try to get a stamp, last year on the French Atlantic coast, all the well-known dealers were sold out of stamps for Europe, unable to get anything, only for vive-la-france! The price for a postcard including a stamp is now around €2.00, try that for 10 or more people... Then you have to come up with a few lines for the limited space, and then! Yes, then try to find a mailbox! Pure stress!
So now emails. The first electronic letter is ready. By now, almost 40 recipients have come together. The place with 4G reception is found, but the email doesn't go out. It just doesn't work. After having to dye some gray hairs more because of this last year, I discovered that I can only send to 11 recipients per hour at gmx. Not a big deal, I think to myself, after all, I have two accounts, and Zappa even has three, so I just need to have enough mobile data and prepare the email on all five.
We are on the course of the Ebro towards the Delta and Zappa discovers a possible photo motif on the little-used road, stops, and gets out. What do I do now? It could take five minutes or five hours... So first open the door, it's hot, the sun is blazing, feet out, stretch a little - oh yes, I can work on the email with Zappa's phone.
The motif turns out not to be so productive after all, so we continue the journey after a short time. After a few kilometers, we discover a viewpoint on the river with information boards, education doesn't hurt, so we stop. I want to get out and notice that my sandals are not in the usual place! I suspect it, it hasn't happened to me for the first time, I have to admit it, as embarrassing as it is: the shoes stayed at the photo motif, where I stretched my feet out of the car. Zappa is already used to it, last year I left my good Crocs in the same situations somewhere in Germany twice. Only I wasn't working on email in such a focused way back then. So back, this time it's only 10km there and back again... There they are, my sandals: old, worn out, lonely, and a little accusing. But leaving them on a remote dusty country road somewhere in dry Spain, I can't do that!
Now the email is ready to go out into the world, we are standing above the Ebro with a magical view, and I will send 11 emails plus three in CC all at once, and from my second account even another nine! Wow, that unexpectedly works. But now it's almost over: Zappa can't send even one, from any email address. I have no idea what the problem is, so I'll try again in an hour.
After dinner, even two hours later, nothing goes out from my addresses, not even one. I log in directly at gmx and can make the remaining recipients happy here. Completely annoyed, I sacrifice my last mobile data to download the app, will that help? We'll see.
Zappa says that in the future, we will chisel our messages on stones and give them to the postal service of donkeys.
However, I find the option through this blog much more relaxed...
