Chilltag 2.0

Publicatu: 09.07.2023

The day started for me at 5:30 am. I was as fit as a fiddle.

Unlike Rainer. He must have had too many ice cubes in his drinks in the past few days. It upset his stomach a bit. The footpath to the toilet was a certainty for him. So I let him sleep to recover and headed to the outdoor restaurant or the beach. When you're bored in the morning here in Bali, you simply go to the beach and watch the sunrise. In the beginning, you're usually alone and can fully enjoy the sun's rays and the sound of the sea. But then the others crawl out of their beds to capture this moment of happiness as well.

It's wonderful. I sat at our table as usual (in the first row), closed my eyes, and enjoyed this moment of warmth and calm. You absorb so much energy... unbelievable. A waitress came by and brought me my Balinese coffee and a still water. I brought a few things down to the restaurant with me, including a great book that a dear friend gave me as a gift once. Heigher Self - May You Be Happy by Laura Malina Seiler. It's a great book full of inspiration and ways of thinking to follow YOUR own path. So I immersed myself in my book and enjoyed the rising sun and the sound of the sea at the same time.

When Rainer eventually arrived, he didn't look good at all. Well, how could he? Such a curse from the gods leaves marks. He nibbled on his toast without butter and very little jam, and was practically waiting for his intestines to react. But they were peaceful.

At 10 o'clock, a driver (probably a cousin of Kadek's) picked me up to take me to the clinic. The doctor, it was someone different than two days ago, was quite happy with my wound. She expertly instructed me on wound care and handed me everything I needed for it, including medical gloves. She even gave me a 500 ml saline bottle so that I could remove the plaster carefully to clean the wound. I was quite impressed.

Back at the beach, it was all about chilling, chilling, chilling. What do you do in Bali when you can't walk or swim? You chill, exactly. Yesterday, it was hot too, but it was very cloudy, which is no longer the case today. Pure sunshine, scattered little clouds. The sun sparkled on the water, playing with itself. Many locals were out and about today, enjoying the day. After I had taken my medication and my supplies for wound care to the room, I returned to my book "May You Be Happy".

I have to be completely honest; such a chill day can also be a therapy day for some people. Like for me. Not being able to do anything and not being allowed to do anything is maybe normal for some people. Not for me. I actually had to pull myself together internally. I became a little irritated, wanted to do things and explore. But I wasn't allowed to do anything. It was almost torture to see people in the water and the divers with their equipment. I was not amused by this situation. But I accepted it and made the best of it. Thank goodness Yeni came by. We chatted for probably an hour, and I had my first Pina Colada with Arac. Arac is Balinese schnapps. You can drink it, but you don't have to. So we all chatted with each other and had a lot of fun. She gave us a recommendation for a warung, which we later discarded. Rainer was still too closely acquainted with his toilet to venture long distances. But it was chill day after all. So everything was relaxed, and the neighboring warung was ours.

The Baracuda is our direct neighbor. A bar that we visited right at the beginning, where we only listened to live music. Now we wanted to go somewhere to eat. And as always, it was mega delicious. I actually wanted a BBQ fish, but the Sate Lilith for the equivalent of 3€ caught my attention. Crumbed fish was on the menu. I didn't know what that meant, so I ordered it right away. Rainer had grilled pork ribs with ginger and lemongrass. I was a little skeptical about his choice, but everything went well, and nothing happened.

We watched the owner, a really cool guy, grill our food. In Germany, not only would the grill be banned, but there would also be no "running around naked" by little children. The mothers sat at a large wooden table and the children amused themselves with running water. Regardless of whether it was muddy or not. Everyone was so relaxed. That's exactly what you want. Live and let live. How great is it to have such a carefree childhood. German or European children have to sit at the table in the restaurant. Whether it's exciting or not. And most of the time, it's... not. Here, the children have fun and don't whine at all. No shouting, no pulling, no discussion, nothing. Just relaxation, for both the children and the mothers.

After our food was grilled, it was served with a bundle of rice, two different vegetables, and salad garnish. My crumbed fish was a fish meatball on a skewer. I got 6 pieces of it plus the ingredients, and all of that for 3€🤣. It was mega delicious. Sensational. Unfortunately, I have to repeat myself again and again. The food in Bali is incredible. There are so many flavors here, simply amazing. My fish meatball skewers not only had roasted flavors but also garlic, coconut, and ginger incorporated. Simply delicious. Rainer's ribs looked a little different than in Germany. But they apparently tasted mega delicious as well. They were coated with a special Balinese paste. The side dishes were the same as mine. He also had a "spizy" sauce with him. Consisting of 98% chili peppers, onions, and honey. Normally, this sauce would burn off all the bacteria in your mouth, that's how devilishly spicy it is. But this one was "only" well seasoned.

It was once again a delight for the palate, and all of that for 15.60€🤣. However, this time it included 5 drinks. The drinks were more expensive than the food this time🤣.

With a full stomach, we had a nightcap next door at our hotel and then went to bed.

Such a chill day can be quite exhausting. 🤣🤩☀️
