After a more or less pleasant overnight bus ride, we arrive in Palenque around 8am in the morning. Tropical heat awaits us - the temperature difference compared to San Cristobal is once again extreme. After freshening up in the bathroom of the bus terminal, we take a minibus through the jungle directly to the Maya ruins.
With two bananas as breakfast, we enter the ancient Maya city, which is located in the middle of the jungle. Although we are already quite early, there are already a lot of people here. The path leads us through a piece of rainforest to another part of the ruins. The stone stairs, partially covered with moss, are very slippery... and so Julio's excursion ends at the beginning with a minor accident. It could have been worse, though, so we can still visit the ruins, albeit at a slower pace. But the heat and the exhausting night on the bus are taking a toll on us. And so, we both look forward to our accommodation and a nap.
