Day 8: Lisbon Part 3

Publicatu: 24.01.2017

Well-rested and refreshed, we started our day at the Feira da Ladra, a pretty large and chaotic weekly flea market in the old district of Alfama. After strolling around the market in the sunshine for hours, we went back to the hostel to take a nap and process all the colorful impressions. In the evening, when hunger struck, we ventured out and visited one of the many illegal Chinese restaurants. The front door is open and you simply go up to the first floor and sit in a kind of large living room. Then you get a menu, a piece of paper, and a pen. You write down the numbers of the dishes you want and wait for the food to come one by one. Unfortunately, the dishes don't come at the same time, so they are eaten one after another. The Portuguese seem to love these places, as all the tables were occupied and there was loud talking, eating, and smoking around 8pm. All in all, the food was okay, the prices were affordable, and the experience was worth the visit.
