ADELAIDE / KANGAROO ISLAND
Adelaide
We are (with all our luggage) back in Australia - and back to summer! It started off well, we got an upgrade in our hostel - from a four-bed to a double room. It sounds better than it is, because even the double room would definitely be considered a dive in Germany. But well, it's better than the hostel in Auckland. We made use of the first day in Adelaide by renting bikes and exploring the city. But the past days / weeks / months have been exhausting, because in the evening I couldn't do anything anymore - I literally fell dead into bed. Sleep is something I'm looking forward to the most at home... because it's somehow lacking here.
The next day was all about sleeping in and then heading to the beach! Finally summer, sun, beach and sea, just like you imagine your vacation.. And it was really nice to just do nothing, lie on the beach and finally get tan again. In New Zealand, we lost some of our tan.
The suburbs are the most beautiful part of Adelaide for me. I found the city center a bit uninteresting, so I was even more impressed by this part of the city. For the first time, it really looked like the holiday destinations we imagine - it almost reached the European standard xD.
Kangaroo Island
The main reason for our stop in Adelaide was our tour to Kangaroo Island. So the next day we had to get up early again and took the bus to the ferry. We were only a small group of 8 people and all about the same age, Jozy and I still had our prejudices about the other travelers. Our tour started relatively unspectacularly and the weather (once again) didn't play along, so we were initially quite disappointed with the tour and the island.
But all of this changed very quickly. On the first day of the tour, we visited a honey farm, watched sea lions, jumped into the 17°C cold water, and in the evening sat around the campfire with our group.
At the end of the day, we had to realize that the first impression was wrong and that we were a really cool group. That was a good thing, because six of us slept in one room - with only one bathroom. So this night was also short.
The next day we got up early and went to a national park to see "Wildlife".
After that, we went to the Coastal Rocks and the Admiral Arch before heading to the beach in the afternoon.
The pictures speak for themselves, so I will skip the long explanations. All in all, it was a really nice trip and it was worth stopping in Adelaide!
Adelaide
We have one more day in Adelaide before we continue to Alice Springs. Our tour guide from the Kangaroo Island tour offered to take us to the Adelaide Hills' hinterland today. So we went to the Adelaide Hills again in bad weather to get a view of the whole city. On a clear day, you can even see Kangaroo Island from there, of course not on this day.
Apart from that, there wasn't really much to see there. We used the rest of the day to rest a bit and pack our things, because the next 5 days will be exhausting enough - we're going on our survival trip to Uluru.
