01/03/2023 to 04/03/2023 - Lima / Peru

Publicatu: 06.03.2023

One last time, we can unpack our shorts for a longer period of time, because the sun is shining in Lima and it's 25 degrees. The capital of Peru is located on the dry Pacific coast and is by far the largest city in the country and one of the largest in all of South America. It took us about 40 minutes to drive from the airport to our accommodation in the modern and wealthiest neighborhood of Miraflores. In the evening, we took our usual small shopping and dinner tour and explored the area a bit.

The next day, we inspected our neighborhood in more detail and walked to John F. Kennedy Park. It is also known as the Cat Park because at least 50 well-groomed and well-fed cats live here. Then we set off to explore the colonial old town of Lima, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991. On the huge Plaza Mayor or Plaza de Armas with the cathedral, the presidential palace, and many houses with beautiful wooden balconies, we also discovered one of the Lima signs, which of course we had to capture in a photo. We strolled through the nearby Central Market, where you could buy everything, literally everything, and then headed to Chinatown. We actually briefly immersed ourselves in the Chinese world and couldn't resist the food. We continued to stroll through the completely crowded streets of the city. It slowly got dark and we reached our evening destination, the Circuito Magico del Agua, the largest fountain complex in the world. A great park where we were able to experience various fountains, plant formations, and a water-music-laser show.

Our neighborhood Miraflores is located by the sea and we took a closer look at it on foot from the cliffs and from the air by paragliding the next day. In the afternoon, we went shopping at the Inka Market. Here you can get everything from ponchos to hats and warm socks made of alpaca fur. We still bought a few little things because our next destinations will be a bit cooler. Lima is truly an interesting but huge and very busy city. Whether on foot or by car, we couldn't find a single spot where there were no people around.
