Day 20 - Killarney

Gipatik: 13.08.2018

Hello there,

Since tomorrow I will already be heading back to London, and the next few days will primarily consist of train rides, bus rides, ferry rides, and waiting, I decided to have an active day today. As mentioned yesterday, I borrowed a bike early this morning and set off to Killarney National Park. Upon arrival, I followed the recommended route around Muckross Lake, where I saw beautiful scenery, many horse carriages, and, by the way, a deer with two little fawns. Since the tour was a bit short for a full day, I frequently locked the bike and took short walks, for example, to a waterfall or through the gardens of Muckross House, a villa located right by the lake of the same name.

With its combination of lake, rocks, and mossy forests, the national park reminded me a lot of the rainforests I saw during my trip to the USA near Seattle, and the climate here is very similar too. In any case, it's a beautiful area and perfect for hiking and walking. In between, I even had time for a little tree climbing adventure and some selfies.

On the way back home, I took a little detour on the bike and visited Ross Castle, the castle by the lake that I saw from afar yesterday. There was a kayak group exploring the area, which gave me the spontaneous idea that kayaking would be the perfect activity for tomorrow morning. So I took out my phone and credit card and actually found a suitable tour, which is now on the agenda for tomorrow.

Oh, and by the way, I have to brag a little: this morning, I came across an information board that identified yesterday's water bird as a heron. I'm quite proud now.

See you tomorrow,

Veronika
