Today we continue to Minca.
Minca is a small town in the Sierra Nevada mountains. The Sierra Nevada is the highest coastal mountain in the world (with the over 5,700 m high Pico Cristobal Colon) and is only 17 kilometers from Santa Marta, and therefore the beach.
After breakfast we are picked up promptly by the taxi and driven to the Marsol bus station. (€2.70)We take the 8 a.m. bus to Santa Marta, even though we booked the 9 a.m. bus. We pay the driver around €14 per person for a bus ride of around 4 hours. (that worked before)
We make a stopover (pee break) in Baranquilla.
Carnival is celebrated here every year, but apart from that there isn't much to see here. Oh yes and it is the birthplace of Shakira.
On the route you really see a lot of poverty and tin shacks. It makes you realize again how good we have it.
We are more or less thrown out at a gas station in Santa Marta. We are asked by Jose where we want to go and Jose (The fast Jose) takes us to Minca. So much for the topic of only driving with licensed taxis)🤣🤣
As we drive, we notice how the temperature and humidity are dropping almost every minute.
Jose even stops for a photo
and finally drops us off in Minca at a café with WiFi,
Not without giving us his phone number for further trips.😂
We drink a great coffee and contact Yosnyder, the driver with a four-wheel jeep to take us to the hostel.
We're starting to understand why you need a four-wheel drive. You can't really call it roads and the 2 km takes 40 minutes.
The views and nature here are really unique and today we realize again why we don't like a package holiday.
The Hostel Mundo Nuevo has a fantastic location. The view of the sea is amazing. We have a room with an open bathroom
and a patio with rocking chairs and hammocks.
The facility is really lovingly made.
The hummingbirds are fluttering in front of our noses and there is chirping from every corner.🦜🦜
There is also a pool with a spectacular view. Such a beautiful piece of earth.
At 5:30 p.m. we meet here at the view point for sunset. Even when it's cloudy, it's spectacular.
At 7 p.m. it's dinner time and there's a delicious dinner (we don't know exactly what we're eating)
but we have a Canadian, a Frenchman and a Dutchman at the table and have nice conversations.
Good night 😴
