Time to say goodbye

Gipatik: 18.09.2019

After...

...54 days in Bali and its surroundings...

...about 2000km on a scooter (including at least 10 near-accidents)...

...visiting 8 islands...

...4 weeks of active participation in an environmental conservation program...

...18 dives...

...6 days of surfing...

...10000 mosquito bites...

...a whole lot of new friendships...

...and countless amazing experiences...

my journey is now coming to an end.

During my last week here, I went on a kayak tour through a mangrove forest. I also visited the famous Devils Tear on Nusa Lembongan.

During the last few days, I spent time with friends in Canggu. We took a cooking class together to learn how to cook traditional Indonesian dishes. The instructor was extremely friendly and our food was delicious.

Furthermore, I successfully improved my surfing skills and I must say that towards the end, I caught some really good waves.

I am currently sitting at the airport in Bali, feeling somehow sad to leave this paradise and all the people here and return to my normal life, but on the other hand, I am also excited to see my family and friends back home again.

I don't want to say that Bali is now my second home or that I am a different person now, but this trip was definitely the best thing I have ever done! It was definitely a great experience to make such a long journey alone because it makes you much more open to new acquaintances and experiences. I hope I can maintain this mentality at least to some extent in Austria! I also learned a lot for my next trips. For example, you actually only need half as much luggage as you originally think! I also believed that my DSLR camera would be constantly in use, but I realized that it is much more fulfilling to simply enjoy the moment and not try to capture it in a perfect photo. And for a quick snapshot, the phone is enough. I only turned on my laptop once during the whole time, but next time I will know better.

With this entry, the blog is temporarily finished and I wanted to say thank you to everyone who has followed it so far and for the great feedback!

I still have some destinations on my travel list, so maybe I will revive the blog again someday, but until then, I'll just say goodbye.

Your globetrotter,

Martin
