Welcome to Mexico!

Gipatik: 28.09.2016

Since we traveled large parts of the country six years ago, this time we limit ourselves to the part of the Caribbean coast ... So this is ... the Caribbean. After the eventful weeks in the States, it's time to do nothing ... The days blur and we are here one moment, there the next ... Good food, visit the occasional bar, spend days at the beach, rent a scooter and explore the area, go diving ... Really quiet days ... We started in Cancun and don't recommend it here ... The supposedly beautiful beach is mostly built up with giant hotels, so it's hard to find access ... From there we crossed to Isla Mujeres ... Much nicer ... A small island where the Caribbean life is more prominent. Then we went along the coast to the south to Playa del Carmen, further to Cozumel ... One thing in particular burned into our brains here, because it's so bizarre: cruise ships can dock on this nice island. Every day a multitude of huge ships wash ashore, full of drunk Americans. The prudish American can book a four-day tour from Miami, finally get wasted (which is impossible in their country) and go on a short visit in embarrassingly costumes. This is limited to one of the first bars in the port area. Here the alcoholic finishing touches are set completely uninhibited and dehumanized. Unbelievable :-)

About us: as described above, we currently just enjoy ourselves ... But it's also incredibly humid, often it rains really heavy, shortly after the sun burns mercilessly again ... So, a good time to relax ...

After a short trip to Tulum, however, we decided to go back to Playa del Carmen because Senorita Lisa wanted to take a Spanish language course here. Done ... So we hung out in Playa for about 1 ½ weeks and started to feel at home. We stayed in a very nice Italian-run hostel and spent our time studying, diving, drinking, and eating well. In addition, Don Daniel could enjoy the live football broadcasts in the sports bars.

On September 16th, we celebrated the Mexican's independence and Lieschen's birthday together. The family-run language school surprised us with a birthday cake and a very nice serenade :-)

Playa del Carmen is not the most wonderful place in the Caribbean, but we will remember it fondly because of the many nice people we met there! We felt really comfortable and had to tear ourselves away at some point. So the journey continued ... However, just as unplanned and aimless as before. It took us to Mahahual and then to Bacalar, a small town on a very beautiful lagoon ... Not much to do except a little sailing and snorkeling.

Tonight, we will turn our backs on the sea and head inland ...

In this sense, Hasta pronto ...
