Maintaining the feeling of home

Gipatik: 22.09.2018

Some may now be wondering what is so special about the horses that mainly decorate this post.

To explain this, we would like to share the following experience because our morning turned out completely different than expected and planned on that day.

After spending the night at this wonderful river, filling a series of bottles with its pure water and packing up our belongings, we wanted to start our planned city trip to Oslo. So we got into the car and at that very moment we were accompanied by a very tender horse voice, which tried to sound with all its heart through the pine trees. Since we are both horse people, we immediately responded to it and found this tone very familiar, we were happy about a familiar vocal color, but did not know where this gentle voice came from. So we unknowingly continued driving. We hadn't gone more than 20 meters when we thought we were mistaken and a horse crossed from one side of the road to the other and disappeared behind trees. We were surprised, especially that the horse immediately responded to our voices and approached us when we left the car. It looked well-groomed and had a filled udder. So it was clear to us: this could not be a wild horse!

We heard another small neighing from a different corner of the forest. There was a foal with another horse. However, these two were fenced in and seemed very restless. It looked like they belonged together. So we tried to find a solution and clarify the situation. Which was clearly difficult, somewhere in the middle of nowhere and with rarely passing Swedes, who either seemed not to care or who had never seen the horse before. Yes, of course, if the horse never stands on the road otherwise.

While it was pouring rain and one of us constantly tried to keep the mare off the road, the other hailed a mailman, hoping he knew more about the matter and could possibly help further. He already knew where the nearest farm was located and said he could drive there. We agreed to wait for 20 minutes and otherwise go and look for ourselves if neither he nor an associated innkeeper appeared. Since unfortunately the mailman did not keep his promise, Maxine then got into the car and went to the next farm, drove to various farms and houses on a hill. For the time being with little success, until she finally found a beautifully located farm on the mountain peak, whose innkeeper seemed to know which horse she was talking about. He immediately got into the car and came to the designated location.

In the meantime, Jenni was busy entertaining and convincing the horse not to cross the road but to stay with its kind until someone comes.

When we arrived back at the horse, the innkeeper also came with a large bucket of food and reunited his horse with the others. We were able to see that the innkeeper attached great importance to the care of the animal families because the found mare was the mother of the foal and the horse that remained with the foal was a gelding. We were extremely glad to see the family happy again and the foal incredibly thirsty.
