Tag 19: Tekija - Negotiation

Today I had a hearty breakfast in the holiday apartment, which included instant cappuccino (I have the feeling that Serbians like that) and bread with spread and apple. Then I packed my things and was on my bike at 8 a.m. It had rained during the night, so it was already quite damp in the morning. I cycled past the Iron Gate 1 (the largest hydroelectric power station on the Danube). The path was very good until the lunch break in Brza Palanka (like the day before on the road with little traffic). The rain that started to set in motivated me to take a long lunch break. Then I continued in the dry. The path was now very bad, however; due to a lot of rain the days before, the path directly by the Danube was very muddy and almost impassable due to many puddles. But since I realized this too late, turning back eventually didn't make sense. So I fought my way through and after a good 100 km I reached Negotin, where I met Bojan, probably the nicest host so far. He has a really nice place to stay with his own tents in the garden. He also has everything that cyclists need (tools, maps, the opportunity to wash your bike, which I immediately took advantage of,...) And it's all in a very nice garden in the middle of downtown Negotin! There are other cyclists here besides me. So far I have spoken to a French couple who cycled to Istanbul via the Mediterranean route and are now cycling back up the Danube to France. I was therefore able to give them a few tips for the next few days (for example, avoid the muddy path along the Danube).

I'm going to take a shower now and then stroll around the city a bit. Tomorrow I'm off to Bulgaria!
